Our solution as a family is going to be a TV free day each week. I'm going to make it Friday.
Firstly we have after school activites on a Friday and we also do our family Fun Night on a Friday - so hopefully the whinging and whining will be less. I'm going to make a list of alternative activites for us ALL to do during this TV free time - like reading, riding bikes, craft etc.
I'll let you know how it all goes. I just hope I remember as I am usually pretty brain dead by Friday. I also just read that over 45% of homes have 3 or more TV's in their house with most children over the age of 4 having one in their rooms. I must admit we have 3 Tv's in our house although one doesn't get used. Rhianna does not have one in her room. I would love to not have one in the bedroom but Bill likes to watch TV in bed some nights and they are a godsend when the kids are sick.
I'd love to know how many TV's you have in your home?

We are lucky to only have 1 TV although I am sure that I am the only one in the family that thinks so. I hate having "background" noise all the time!!!!
We have 2 TVs - one in the loungeroom that DH and I watch and one in the family room for the girls. Amy now watches TV with us most nights so we try to have at least one night a week where we choose something that Christy will want to watch with us. We only watch pay TV or downloaded shows so the girls aren't exposed to lots of violence or adds - and we don't watch the news. I refused to get a TV in our new house but DH does watch shows in his computer. The girls would love one in their rooms but I refuse until they are older - then we'll see.

Emma, I also hate background noise. when you have kids you start to love the sounds of silence. LOL
Libby, We also don't watch the news and I for one do not feel any poorer for it. It was full of bad and sad news items that made me feel upset and discouraged about people and the world we live in.
We have 1 TV in the living room. We don't watch it much, but that's probably because we don't have cable or satellite. I also don't watch the news very much because it's so depressing. My family and I are getting ready to move out to the country. I always tell everyone I am trying to escape society. hehe My husband, on the other hand, loves the news. He reads it in three different languages. I figure, if something important happens, he can let me know. lol
